So I was robbed at gunpoint yesterday. One guy pulled a gun and forced me into my apartment, he made me open the safe and took the cash and jewelry. His friend was in the bedroom going through my wife's closet taking her handbags.

My wife was in the other room when this happened with our 1 year old daughter. She told me when she heard the commotion she locked the door to their room and told our daughter to be quiet. The guy in the bedroom started hitting the door saying to let him in but my wife told him she was changing the baby and the other guy said to let it go.

When they left my wife cried for 2 hours straight saying she was so scared for our daughter. She also said it could have gone so much worse if they got in the room. She asked if I would consider getting a gun and taking a class so I can protect us if that happens again.

I told her I already own a handgun. I got my concealed carry permit while I was in college and have had it since. I told her I keep the gun in the nightstand.

She was angry I didn't tell her. I told her the truth that I didn't want her to know because she would want me to get rid of it because she doesn't like guns. She said that she was going to call the police and tell them. She said she doesn't want a gun in the house. I told her she can do that if she wants but they will only come and take it and give me a ticket for illegal possession (I'm in Chicago) but if she does that and someone breaks in again I might not be able to protect our family.

Now she's angry with me. She thinks I'm putting this stupid gun over her and our daughter's safety. She said the gun can't protect us if it's in the other room.

I'm trying to get her to see reason but she's not having it. What do I do?
