I was touched by the kindness of a stranger

Something like this has never happened to me before.<br><br>So, I was at the grocery store picking up some stuff to make ramen. When I was heading towards the checkout, I see a lady with a basket and the cashier is scanning her items. When he asks for her to pay, she realizes that she doesn't have her wallet and the only money that she has is enough to cover about half of her groceries. I was the next person behind her in line.<br><br>She was an elderly lady and was clearly a single mother. Her son was with her and she probably spent the whole day cooking for him. She was in a bit of distress and was considering putting some groceries back, but I asked her to keep the ones that she already had out. So, I paid for her groceries. She was very thankful and appreciated it very much. I told her to pay it forward.<br><br>I was expecting her to go back to the car for her wallet, but she ended up having to ask her son to go back home to get some more money. I'm assuming she didn't have a car key, or else she would have went back herself. She had to wait for a while, but eventually, her son came back with enough money to cover the rest of the groceries. She was very thankful that her groceries weren't held up at the cash register for that long. When she finally paid for the rest of her groceries, she walked over to me, hand me $20, and told me to use it to go out and have a good time on her.<br><br>I was very touched and wanted to hug her. I was so happy and felt like I was on cloud 9. The rest of the day was amazing and I felt like I was walking on rainbows. It feels good to help others and I will never forget what she told me, which was to pay it forward.<br><br>This has never happened to me before, but I would like to think that I would help someone else in a similar situation. I'm more of an introvert and tend to avoid social interactions, but this was a very pleasant experience. I hope she and her son are doing well tonight.
