“Women just want to be free and to make their own choices” is so fucking insincere

Every single day I see this phrase uttered by every single feminist, man and woman, all day every day. “Women just want to be free and to make their own choices!” <br><br>I see it in response to posts about abortion, about childcare, about women in STEM and business, about women in sports, about women in… everything. “Women just wanna be free”<br><br>Do you know what? NO. We fucking don’t want that freedom. <br><br>What we want is to be able to pursue the things we love, to make the choices we want for our own lives, to do what makes us happy… without having to do all the housework and all the childcare.<br><br>Without having to do all the cooking and all the cleaning and grocery shopping and errands. Without having to take all the midnight feedings and change all the diapers and sing all the lullabies. <br><br>We don’t want to be FREE, we want to be EQUAL. We don’t want the so called “Luxury” of being able to go out and earn some money or finish a degree if we also have to go home and do all the housework and childcare. We don’t want to have to find a way to pursue our passions AND have to do all that shit. <br><br>We want to be equal.<br><br>We want to be able to pursue our passions without having to bear the entire burden that comes with raising a family, because those are CHOICES we make. We CHOOSE to have children, but we get STUCK with the burden. <br><br>We CHOOSE to pursue higher education or a career, but we get STUCK with the double shift. <br><br>We want kids? We do all the work. We want a job? We do all the housework. <br><br>So stop saying “Women just want to be free” because that’s a lie. We want to be equal partners. <br><br>Women don’t want their husbands to be their masters, to be their providers or to be their protectors. We want our husbands to be our PARTNERS and our PEERS.<br><br>We don’t want to be “cared for” by men, we want to be respected. We don’t want to be “given a choice” by men, we want to have actual agency. <br><br>We don’t want to be FREE, we want to be EQUAL.
