Why did I just have to argue with a parent about my in-person class being cancelled?

Our school is online tomorrow, the day after break, and our students are told that if their class is online, they should stay home. I was bombarded with emails and voicemails from parents and students asking me if I would still have class in person. I did reply to each of them in the negative.

One parent just called me, very angry, and asked me why I wouldn't be holding class in person, since my students were going to be in person other days. I tried to explain that we do not have anyone to supervise my classroom or my students, and they do get a synchronous class online, so it is not as if they are just doing an assignment on their own. The parent told me that I had an obligation to do so, because of my students with special needs who would be suffering without their routine. I replied that I have several students in my online class with special needs, and I am legally required to give them equal access and modifications. They are not being discriminated against.
