It’s not weird to cry when a teacher gives you a tissue, right?

I was subbing my own class (I cried) and a girl had stomach pains that came on gradually. She thought it was cramps and I said something like “You can go to the bathroom, if you think it’s your period then there’s tampons AND pads AND a hot water bottle. Do you want a stomach medicine? I have aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen”.

I set a timer for 5 minutes and told her to let me know when it went off so I wouldn’t forget.

I set a timer for myself for 15 minutes to check on her.

When the timer went off a few minutes later I went to the bathroom. I work with 19-21 year olds. She was sitting on the toilet crying. She had a pregnancy test in the toilet, with 2 red lines. I asked her if she was sure she was pregnant and she said she had been worried that her period was so late.

The only thing I had for her that might help was a tissue. I offered it to her and she cried harder. I said, “Sorry it’s not a Kleenex.”

She cried more.
