AITA for ordering one more glass of wine and finishing the bottle after a guest told me I didn’t need to share my wine.

My (f) 17 year old daughter invited a friend over for dinner. I (f) cooked my famous three layer lasagna and made a green salad to go with it.

I opened a bottle of wine to have with dinner. I had two glasses by the time they were ready to eat. I offered each of them a glass of wine. They said they didn’t feel comfortable drinking at our house because they knew I had a firm no drinking rule for my daughter unless it was with me and I told her no tonight.

My daughter said it’s fine if she drinks, it’s her house and she understands the rule is for when she’s out with friends, it’s fine here tonight. I told her no again.

Anyway, after we were done with dinner a second bottle of the same wine was opened. The girl said where she put the bottle was perfect because it had been kept at the perfect temperature.

They both thanked me for dinner and went to their room to do their homework. When they were done I gave them a slice of cheesecake with a berry compote I made. The girl said she loved cheesecake and thanked me again for dinner. I said you’re welcome.

When I was clearing the table the girl noticed I was putting the remaining wine in the fridge. I told her I didn’t want it to go bad. She said I could have finished it at dinner. I told her I was good with two glasses and she said there are a few more glasses in the bottle. I told her she was welcome to another glass.

She said she didn’t want anymore and I didn’t need to finish the bottle. I thanked her but said I didn’t need to finish the bottle and she should. She said again she didn’t want any and I didn’t need to finish it because she wasn’t going to have anymore.

I thanked her then ordered another glass, telling her how much she was helping me drink up so the bottle didn’t go bad. She told me again I didn’t have to finish the bottle.

She got up and said goodnight and when she was out of earshot my daughter asked me why I was being so bitchy and making fun of her friend over a bottle of wine. I told her the girl was making a big problem out of nothing.

Then my daughter said, “She’s right. I don’t think you need to finish the whole bottle.” I told her I agreed the bottle wouldn’t be finished but that would be with her help.

My daughter got up with a piece of cheesecake in her hand saying she was going to her room. I asked her to tell her friend if she changed her mind she could come back down to drink a glass or two.

I took my cheesecake to the TV room and heard her go back in the kitchen. I heard the cork come out of the bottle and the wine pouring. I heard her muttering and she brought me a full glass of wine.

I told her I appreciate it but she told me I didn’t need to finish the bottle. She had a smirk on her face, but whatever. I thanked her.

I still had about half the glass when they went to bed. As I was locking up I noticed she put the cork back in the bottle and took out the air, like it was a brand new bottle.

I put the wine on the counter with a note that said, “Help yourself, you don’t need to finish the bottle.”
