"African American" is an inappropriate and unrespectful term for black people and I'm British.

I'm just going to come out and say it, my issue with the term African American is the structure of the name. When you structure a name like that, it makes it sound like every black person is half African and half American, Barack Obama is actually African American, he was born to an American mother and Kenyan father. What if a black person in the US has no ties to Africa and has never been there, are they still African American, my Nan was black and she was British, not African British.

The reason I'm bringing this up is because it's a big conversation in the UK right now, we're starting to see a surge in the use of African British as the new name for black people and people are debating whether it's offensive to continue calling them black. I'm personally anti-African British because of the reasons stated above.

This may be an unpopular opinion for my fellow Brits but I do not believe that African British is a better option than black, it is in fact worse.
