Regarding the SDC incident in the news

I would like to preface by saying I’m a high school English teacher. I have never seen TWs like this before. This is a different TW than what I use for the classroom, so if you or your students were affected by the recent SDC incident where the female student was filmed while using the restroom at school, please be aware of that.<br><br>Dear educators,<br><br>We believe that you are the front lines of the war against trans people.<br><br>All of us have seen the recent news where a male trans student was caught with their phone in the SDC bathroom. We will not be discussing whether or not this was a valid scare tactic as that has been discussed to death. We don’t care about the validity of the tactic. What we do care about is the genuine fear of trans and non trans students. We believe that this is a serious and terrifying breach of privacy.<br><br>If you witnessed a male student being “caught” with their phone in the bathroom, we urge you to keep an open mind. <br><br>We are not your enemy. <br><br>We are not perverts. <br><br>We are not abusers of children. <br><br>We are just people. <br><br>We are not a danger. <br><br>We are not an enemy. <br><br>We are just a student trying to learn like the rest of the class. <br><br>I am a teacher. <br><br>I am not a danger. <br><br>I am not an enemy.<br><br>We are just people.<br><br>I can’t speak for all trans people but I can’t think of a single reason to bring a phone into a bathroom. It’s awkward and bulky. There’s usually no place to put them, so even if someone did have a phone, it would be just sitting on the floor. <br><br>We do not hide phones in our bags. <br><br>Those bags are for our things. We do not like to hide phones in bags any more than you’d like to hide a phone in your bag, especially in a bathing suit. It’s inconvenient and not fun to do. <br><br>Male trans students do not have ulterior motives. <br><br>We are not trying to “watch you.” <br><br>We are not trying to hurt you. <br><br>If you see a male trans student with a phone in the bathroom, it’s probably because they were on it before they noticed a stall and needed to stop. <br><br>We are not a danger. <br><br>If you witnessed this, we understand your concerns. This is the world we live in. People are bigoted and ignorant. We urge you to listen to our voices. We are not abusers. <br><br>We are a minority and we are not a threat. We are not a danger to you or your students. <br><br>We are not pedophiles. <br><br>We are not perverts. <br><br>We are not disgusting. <br><br>We are the same as you. <br><br>We are not your enemy. <br><br>We are not a danger.
