AITA for wanting to refuse service to people who aren’t wearing masks

I am a nurse anesthetist and I work in a large OR in a big hospital. I work at an especially high risk place since there is no N95 mask that can protect me in the operating room since I have to put my face right next to the patient’s face in order to put a breathing tube in. Thankfully, I haven’t caught Covid so far, but one of our staff did catch it at work.

I’ve been very strict about masks and social distancing since before the pandemic even hit in my country. I refuse to play with fire when it comes to my health, since catching Covid so early could have meant almost certain death.

I’ve been very strict about masks at work, so much so that I have been reported for refusing anesthetic service to a surgeon who refused to wear a mask in the OR even though we have a strict no mask no entry policy. He didn’t have a medical exemption, he just said it was bullshit and that he didn’t want to wear one.

The issue was blown out of proportion and higher management is saying I’m too strict and that I’m scaring patients when I tell them to wear a mask when they get to the OR. But Mask don’t save lives is literally my motto.

AITA
