The way people use the term "habit" is annoying. If you play video games a couple of times a week then you don't have a gaming habit, you have a hobby

Yea i know it's not to most important thing in life but still, it annoys me.

"I'm trying to stop having this habit of making a little video on my phone every time I smoke a bong hit."

You don't have a habit you have a hobby. A habit is something you do almost compulsively like in the case of an addiction, like having to smoke one in the morning, a part of your routine. Or every time in a day that you have to do something like a ritual or before you can move on with your day. I don't want to make it seem like I'm shaming people for doing this kind of thing, it's your choice if you wanna do it, but it's not a habit.

I also believe the real definition of the word habit is being overused in a way that's relatively to addiction. When people talk about something being a habit, in modern day, they're talking about it like it's a bad thing, something that they need to stop, like an addiction. This is more true for people who say they have a smoking habit, while a smoker who smokes only on the weekends would be more like a hobby smoker. So I suppose one of my points is that context is important.

Lastly, if you have an best friend, you don't have an habit, you have a friend. It might be a bad relationship, but still. Going back to the compulsion thing, you don't have to be around your friend in order to function the way you would with an addiction.

Feel free to correct me if you disagree or think I'm right, I'm not perfect. Just a rant over something that doesn't really matter.
