Being a single dad with half custody is just as hard as being a single mom but I don't have a rally cry of support behind me

I think single dads need (and deserve) the same amount of support and acknowledgement as single moms do. We also struggle with our children, money, time management, loneliness, finding someone new, etc. I know a few single moms (not all of them) that use their situation as an excuse to do shitty (and sometimes abusive) things to their children all while their friends and family are giving them endless words of encouragement.

Don't get me wrong, some single moms really do struggle and need help. I'm not here to downplay them or make them out to be bad people. What I do want to say is that single dads also struggle and do not receive the same amount of support as single moms do. I have raised my children on my own for almost a decade while also working and going to school. I was told by family and friends that I needed to "man up" and that being a single parent is just a part of being a parent.

I feel that if you are a good single parent then you should be appreciated, regardless of your gender. Also, if you are a single parent that is using your situation as an excuse to be lazy or neglect your children, you should be called out and not given a free pass.

Edit: Thanks for the awards

Edit 2: I'd just like to reiterate the point of this post which is not that single moms have it easy or that single dads have it the hardest. Rather that as a society we should support single parents and not just single moms.
