I'm not a programmer, but I have a great app/website idea that the world desperately needs. All of you smart people can run with this if you think it is a great idea. * **Idea** - an app/website that allows its users to select what kind of content they want to see on social media. In other words, it should be able to filter out content from your posts, the news feed, direct messages, and anything else. The premise behind this is that a user is able to select what type of content they want to see (this could be done via a long list of topics), and anything that doesn't fit within those topics list gets filtered out. * **Goal** - to make social media a much more enjoyable place, and to protect users from those who wish to do harm to others. This app/website should reduce the amount of mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, as well as reduce the number of suicides, that are possibly caused by social media. * **Feature 1** - selecting topics. Selecting topics should be the first thing that users have to do after creating an account. To get the best results, this list should be very long, and should include all types of topics. This feature should have "categories" or "sub topics" or some other way to allow users to select all topics. Once topics are selected, the app/website should allow the users to select their level of interest in a topic (very interested, slightly interested, neutral, slightly uninterested, very uninterested, uninterested). Any topic that is marked as "uninterested" should be the first to be filtered out. * **Feature 2** - filtering content. All content should be filtered based on the topics that users are interested in. Filtering could be done via a simple algorithm. For example, the algorithm could be a simple "if else" statement. If the content is related to a topic that the user is interested in, then allow the user to see the content. If the content is not related to a topic that the user is interested in, then filter out the content. This is overly simplified, but the premise should be the same. * **Feature 3** - account protection. This should be done via another list of topics. This list should also be very long, and should also have "categories" or "sub topics". This list should allow users to select topics that can never be posted to their account. Any topic in this list should always be filtered out from the content. Account protection is important because users should have the right to protect their account from any topic that could do harm to them. This list should also allow users to select their level of protection (very protected, slightly protected, unprotected, slightly unprotected, very unprotected). Any topic that is marked as "protected" should always be filtered out. * **Feature 4** - blocking accounts. Based on the topics that users select as account protected topics, the app/website should block any accounts that post content that could harm a user. This is another safety feature. Users should be able to block any account that could do harm to them, and this could also help prevent other issues such as cyber stalking and harassment. * **Feature 5** - posting content. Posting content should be the simplest feature. Users should be able to enter a post, select the topic of the post, and enter any other relevant details. That's it. * **Feature 6** - chatting. Chatting should also be simple. Users should be able to initiate a chat with any other user, selecting a topic for the chat, if desired. If a chat topic is selected, then the app/website should stay within the topic in the chat, and should alert the user if a topic is strayed from. Any message outside of the chat topic should be filtered out from the chat. * **Features 7-10** - anything else you can think of that would make the app/website better. I don't have any ideas for features 7-10. * **Algorithm** - the algorithm to create all this could be simple.
