How did Napoleon become emperor of France?

Napoleon rose to prominence after his victories in Italy, and eventually he turned his attention towards expanding the French empire in Egypt.<br>They ultimately failed in Egypt and now Napoleon was facing trial at home. He came home and won the hearts of the people again. Then he rose to power after a bloody coup in France. The French directorate was overthrown and the French directorate came to power. The coup resulted in Napoleon becoming the first councilor of France.<br>He became a dictator. He became so powerful he was able to cross the Rhine.<br>He became so powerful and successful that the French people loved him. In 1804 he decided to make himself emperor of France. So he did, and no one was able to stop him.
