At the end of August 1946, Calcutta had witnessed the Great killing (1946 Calcutta Killings) where up to 15000 Hindus were brutally butchered and many more were raped in a single day.

As news of the massacre at Calcutta reached Noakhali (in today's Bangladesh, but it was part of British India back then- part of a province called Bengal), a new wave of violence erupted in the region commencing on October 10th. The violence was so brutal that it was called the worst ever brutality against Hindus after the partition.

On 29th August 1946, news of violence in Calcutta reached Noakhali where a separatist Muslim rally was taken out under the leadership of Moulana Charu Parvez. He exhorted his followers to “liquidate” Hindus in East Bengal. The rally ended with threats against the local Hindus.

The killing spree in Noakhali began on 30th August 1946 in a small village called Bechkhowla. The first to be attacked were the house of Surendra Nath Bose and the local Post Office where Bose worked as a Postmaster. The Hindi-hating Muslim invaders set fire to the house and local Post Office, before they set fire to Bose’s wife, children, and Bose himself.

The Brahmin priest of the local temple was killed before he was dragged away and burnt alive. The rest of the Hindus of the area were told to either convert or leave. Many chose to convert and were forced to eat cow dung and drink urine.

The next day, on 31st August 1946, the Muslim fundamentalists attacked two more villages. The villagers were forced to flee as the Moulana-led Muslim mob burnt everything down. The local temple was razed to the ground, along with the priest who was burnt alive inside the temple premises.

Beginning on October 10th 1946, the violence escalated further, with up to 5000 Hindus losing their lives, along with the violation of thousands of Hindu women. Even today, the violence unleashed in Noakhali by the fundamentalist Muslim invaders is known as one of the most brutal acts of violence against Hindus in the sub-continent.

Mahatma Gandhi who visited the site of the carnage described it as the “death dance of Hindu society”. He was clear that this violence was orchestrated by the Muslim League. Today's Islamofascist nation of Pakistan was created in 1947 and many of the people who fled Bangladesh to settle in Kolkata (after losing everything) are still waiting to be rehabilitated.

The violence in Noakhali did not fade away until December 1946 when the British sent troops. Even when the violence subsided, almost 75% of the villagers were left homeless. The local police simply refused to take any action when such horrific acts were committed against the Hindus. The violence was so ghastly that the memory of it still invokes fear among the people of the region. Many tens of thousands of Hindus were forcefully converted to Islam during this violence.

But the invaders had still not had enough...it took the great Hindu saint, MK Gandhi, to come to the scene and beg those monsters not to do this.
**Truly Gruesome!**
