I have been in a single use of a fleshlight and now it smells really bad

I have been using a fleshlight since last year and I never washed it after every time I use it I just let the water run through it a little bit and then put it back in the cupboard and this morning when I looked at it, it smelled really bad. As I did a little bit of laundry today I decided to put it into a bucket of water and let it soak and I threw some washing detergent into the water as well. Is that ok or will it damage the fleshlight?
