AITA for telling my son his daughter is not beautiful.

My 28 year old niece has been a model for the past 6 years. She travels extensively and has modeled for several major brands.<br><br>My brother and his wife have a 1 year old daughter. She’s the first grandchild on their side and they spoil her.<br><br>My brother asked everyone to come over to their house for Easter. My niece was back in town, so she came too. Before everyone arrived, they asked my niece “do you think our daughter is beautiful?”<br><br>My niece replied “no,” but then elaborated. She said that “beauty is more than looks. It requires grace, poise and humility. Your daughter is 1 years old. She doesn’t have any of those things.” My brother and his wife were very upset. They said that she was being mean and rude.<br><br>When everyone got there, my brother and his wife kept bragging about how beautiful their daughter is.<br><br>After a while, my niece had enough. She asked my brother and his wife to tell her what specifically makes their daughter beautiful. They said that she has blue eyes and blonde hair. My niece asked them to be more specific. They were confused. My niece said  “Well there are a lot of people that have blue eyes and blonde hair. What makes hers special? Why are they more beautiful than anyone else’s?”<br><br>My brother and his wife said that they weren’t more beautiful and that it was wrong to think they are. My niece said that they had been calling their daughter beautiful all day. She asked them why they were saying that.<br><br>My brother and his wife said that as a parent, you’re supposed to tell your child that they are beautiful. My niece said that their daughter is 1 years old. She can’t even understand what they’re saying.<br><br>Then my niece said that my brother and his wife were lying to their daughter and to the rest of us. She said that they were calling their daughter beautiful even though she’s not.<br><br>My niece’s comments ruined the whole vibe. My brother and his wife went silent. My wife said that my niece was being rude and that my brother and his wife were just talking.<br><br>My brother and his wife didn’t say anything for the rest of the day. They were very cold and distant.<br><br>On the way home, my wife yelled at my niece. She said that my niece was rude and that she had ruined Easter for my brother and his wife.<br><br>My niece said that she was just stating her opinion. My wife said that opinions don’t have to be stated. My niece said that my brother and his wife wouldn’t stop talking about their daughter’s beauty. My wife said that my niece should have just let them talk.<br><br>Now my brother and his wife are furious with me and my niece. They said that I should have raised my niece better and that I should teach her manners.<br><br>I feel like they are overreacting. But I’m also worried that my niece might have been rude.<br><br>EDIT: Nobody ever said that my niece was beautiful. She was a premature birth. She was small and underweight growing up. She was always self conscious about her looks until she started modeling.<br><br>EDIT 2: I said that my niece “has been a model for the past six years.” That means she started modeling at 22. She wasn’t modeling as a child.<br><br>EDIT 3: When I said “my niece “has been a model for the past six years.” That also means that she is 28 now. Not 24.<br><br>EDIT 4: My niece said that beauty requires grace, poise and humility. It doesn’t matter if that’s true or not. She said that she doesn’t care and that if she ever sees them again, she’ll tell them the truth again.<br><br>My wife is still angry with me. She hasn’t talked to me all week. She keeps hinting that I should punish my niece.<br><br>It’s my niece’s birthday today. She’s turning 29. She flew out to Chicago to celebrate with her friends.<br><br>My brother and his wife sent a happy birthday message to my niece. They said that they hope she has a great time and that they wish her well.<br><br>My wife saw the message. She asked me “what is wrong with your brother and his wife?” I asked her what she meant. She said that they should cut my niece out of their lives entirely. I asked her why. She said that my niece ruined Easter and she insulted their daughter.<br><br>I told her that it doesn’t matter. It’s my niece’s birthday. It’s better to be nice.<br><br>My wife rolled her eyes. She said that she hopes my niece gets her karma someday.
