Women have literally been trying to save the planet for the past 2,500 years. So before anyone even tries to come to me with “what are the women going to do to change this” I would like to point out that women have been trying to fix things for the past 2,500 years. Women have been in politics, science, literature, and other fields for the past 2,500 years seeking some sort of change.

Like sure, women can own up to their own internalized misogyny and complicity in all of this. But we cannot blame ourselves for not being able to single handedly bring down a system of oppression that has existed for thousands of years. How dare you.

We absolutely cannot blame the women of the ancient world for not being able to revolt against a patriarchy that is thousands of years old. Like literally what are you talking about? You can’t blame Cleopatra for not bringing down a system that has existed since before she was born. That’s ridiculous.

And yes, there are women who are complicit in the patriarchy. However, I do not believe that we should ever blame a woman for being complicit in her own oppression. I cannot wrap my head around the idea of victim blaming like that.

I am going to begin with ancient times and the suffragettes and eventually move on to the 1960s and 70s. I am not as familiar with the feminist movement in other countries so I am going to focus on the feminist movement in the United States. I understand that the feminist movement in the United States is not the only one that matters. I am also going to discuss intersectional feminist and how their voices are repeatedly ignored.

For the past 2,500 years, women have literally been seeking change for society. They have been trying to fix the corruption in society. Women have literally been saying that men should absolutely not be in charge over society for the past 2,500 years. This is not something that was started in the 1960s and 70s. While women have been trying to change society for the past 2,500 years, it was absolutely not until the 1960s that women began fighting for women’s rights. Women have been fighting against the patriarchy and male dominance for 2,500 years. However, it was not until the 1960s that women began organizing to fight just for women’s rights. Women began to organize a movement around women’s rights in ancient times but they wanted women’s rights for the betterment of society and to bring down the patriarchy. They wanted women to begin fighting back against the patriarchy and start a revolution. The modern feminist movement was started in the 1960s. However, women have been in politics and stepping out of their gender roles for the past 2,500 years. However, it was not until the modern feminist movement that women began to receive male backlash for stepping out of their gender roles.

In ancient civilizations, women were often worshipped as deities. In Greece, there were two sects of people. Those who worshipped Zeus and those who worshipped Gaia. The people who worshipped Zeus believed that the world was made by a man while the people who worshipped Gaia believed that the world was created by a woman. In the end, Zeus won and everyone worshipped a male deity. Zeus was a symbol of the patriarchy while Gaia was the symbol of the matriarchy. Women have been worshipped as deities in multiple ancient civilizations. Women have been the rulers and politicians of ancient civilizations. Women have been doctors, philosophers, and scientists in ancient civilizations. The ancient world was not some sort of patriarchal wet dream in which women were forced to stay home and be good little housewives. In the ancient world, it was totally normal for a woman to be a doctor, philosopher, or politician. However, in the ancient world, politics and philosophy were totally normal fields for a person to be in. It was considered a respectable career for anyone, regardless of gender, to work in politics, science, or philosophy.

The modern feminist movement which was started in the 1960s and 70s is often compared to the ancient Greek play Lysistrata in which the women of Greece decided to go on a sex strike until the men stopped going to war. But in reality, this modern feminist movement is totally different from anything that women in the ancient world were doing. In the ancient world, women were literally worshipped as deities. Women rulers, politicians, doctors, and philosophers were common in ancient civilizations. Women have been trying to change society for literally 2,500 years. Women have been warning everyone that the patriarchy would destroy us all for literally 2,500 years. However, the patriarchy is so deeply ingrained into our society that we cannot even imagine a society without it. The fact that we have been trying to change society for the past 2,500 years and have gotten basically no where should be a huge red flag for anyone. Society is corrupt. It’s been corrupt for thousands of years. It’s time to bring society down.

In ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, it was normal for women to hold careers as doctors, politicians, and philosophers. Women have been into science for the past 2,500 years. Women have been in politics for the past 2,500 years. Women have been philosophers and book writers for the past 2,500 years. Women have been in fields that the patriarchy claims that women cannot get into for the past 2,500 years. The ancient world was not some sort of patriarchal utopia in which the women were locked up inside and forced to be good little housewives. It was totally normal for a woman to be a doctor, politician, or philosopher. Women absolutely had careers in the ancient world. It was totally normal for women to leave the home and have careers. The idea that women cannot get into male dominated fields is a lie. Women have been in male dominated fields for the past 2,500 years. Women have been breaking into male dominated fields for the past 2,500 years. The fact that the patriarchy is still in power after 2,500 years of women breaking into male dominated fields should be a huge red flag for anyone. We absolutely cannot blame women for the patriarchy. We cannot blame women for the problems in society.

Also, the idea that women cannot get into male dominated fields is a lie that the patriarchy has been telling for the past 500 years. Prior to the past 500 years, women have been totally free to enter male dominated fields. Literally the only thing stopping women from entering these fields were the traditional gender roles. Women have been in politics, science, literature, philosophy, and other fields for the past 2,500 years. Women have been in male dominated fields since ancient times. Women have been allowed to enter into male dominated fields for the past 2,500 years. It’s a lie that women cannot get into male dominated fields. Women have been in male dominated fields for thousands of years. Like, come on.

It was not until 500 years ago when the witch hunts began that it became more difficult for women to enter male dominated fields. Like sure, women had to deal with traditional gender roles in ancient times, but it was not nearly as difficult as the modern day. It was not until 500 years ago that society began to buck down on women entering male dominated field. It was not until 500 years ago that women entering male dominated fields was seen as a bad thing. Like, women had to deal with traditional gender roles in ancient times, but women entering male dominated fields was not seen as a bad thing until 500 years ago.
