One day, I was sitting on my front porch smoking a cigarette, when I noticed the little girl next door. She couldn't have been more than 10 years old, and she was standing on the steps of her front door looking up and down the street.

After a good 5 minutes of looking around, she looked my way, and when she spotted me, she ran through her front door.

I didn't think much of it, I figured she was calling for one of her parents.

Sure enough, about 5 minutes later, I heard the front door open and close, and when I looked up, I saw a man standing on the steps, looking in my direction, or at least the direction I was in.

He was...a lot to take in. The guy was huge. Standing at what must have been 7 feet tall, and his body mass index was probably as big as his height.

It was clear that he had very little control over his motor functions, his mouth hung down low, and his eyes were twitching all over the place. He was clean though, he had nice new clothes on, and his hair was brushed nicely.

He didn't seem to notice me either, he was looking over my head and beyond me.

I waved him down to get his attention, and when he saw me, he smiled, and started walking my way.

He walked very slowly, and each step he took looked like it hurt his knees, but he slowly made his way to me, stopping occasionally to regain his balance while he grabbed onto a tree, or a car, or anything he could find.

I thought about running over and helping him, but I was afraid of him falling on me and hurting me in the process.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, he was in front of me.

"Hello there." He said with a smile.

"How ya doin?" I asked, trying to be polite.

"I'm doin well, thank you for asking." He said. "By the way, my name is Terry. I'm the little girl's father. What's yours?"

"Terry? Yeah, I'm John." I said, extending my hand, "Nice to meet you."

Terry slowly lowered his massive frame to extend his massive hand, and he damn near fell over when he was trying to straighten back up.

"You'll have to excuse me if I'm moving slow today. Been out of commission for a while."

"Oh, really? What's wrong?" I asked.

"Well, you see, I have bad knees, and my balance is a bit off." He said.

"That makes sense." I countered.

"But, I assure you, I'm not ALWAYS like this." He said.

"Of course not." I replied.

"I'm only like this when I'm out." He said.

"Okay."

"Oh, I forgot to ask. How old are you?" He asked.

"I'm 24." I said.

"Oh, okay. Well, then. Would you like to go out sometime?" Terry asked.

"Oh, no, thank you. I'm not into...people like you." I said.

"Huh?" Terry asked.

"You know...fat people." I said.

"Oh. Well, okay." Terry said.

"Listen, I don't want to be rude. I'm just not into that, okay?" I said.

Terry nodded reluctantly, and started walking back to his house.

"Well, it was nice meeting you." I said as he walked away.

"Oh, yeah. That's true." Terry said with a smile, as he started walking.

That was it. After he went into his house, I just went back inside my own house and started watching a movie.

The next day, I was sitting on my front porch again, when I saw the little girl next door. This time, she was pointing at me, but didn't run inside when she saw me.

Instead, she kept pointing, and a few seconds later, Terry walked out, and started walking towards me.

"Hey there John." Terry said, as he got closer.

"Oh, hey there, Terry." I said.

"What are you doing out here?" Terry asked.

"I'm just sitting on my front porch, smoking a cigarette." I said.

"Oh, okay. I like to sit on my front porch and smoke sometimes too." Terry said.

"Well, you know what they say. There's nothing like sitting on your front porch with a nice stiff drink, and a cigar." I said.

"Oh, yeah! I forgot about that. Well, John, it was nice seeing ya." Terry said.

"Same to you Terry." I said, as he walked back to his house.

This continued every day after that. Me sitting on the front porch, the little girl noticing me, pointing at me, and Terry coming out and walking towards me.

I started to think of him as an old friend. Friendly conversation at the end of the day.

I have to admit, it was nice.

It continued this way for a good 2 weeks.

But, one day, when Terry came out, he looked different. Better. He stood up straight, and he walked at a normal pace.

"You know, John. I really like you." He said, when he got closer.

"Oh? How so?" I asked.

"Well, you're nice. And you talk to me." Terry said.

"Well, I'm happy to talk to you, Terry. You're a nice guy." I said.

"You know, I think you're the first person to ever be my friend." Terry said.

"Well, thank you, Terry. That means a lot to me." I said.

"I like that name. You know what? I think I'm gonna give you a nickname of my own. Since we're friends. From now on, I'm gonna call you...Johhhhnn..." Terry said, smiling.

"Oh, okay. Well, I'll see you later, Terry." I said.

"Yeah. See ya." Terry said, and he turned around, and walked back to his house.

The next day, when Terry came out, he looked normal again. Slowly moving, twitching eyes, big goofy smile.

"Hey Johhhhnn, I was gonna ask, do you ever hear anything weird at night, Johhhhnn?" Terry said.

"Hear anything weird? What do you mean?" I asked.

"I don't know, Johhhhnn. Just anything unusual." Terry said.

"No, I don't hear anything." I said.

"Oh, okay. Well, that's good, Johhhhnn." Terry said, before turning around and walking back to his house.

This went on just like the other days, and after a few more days, I had forgotten what Terry said previously.

That was until it actually happened.

That night, I heard a creaking in the hallway.

At first, I thought it was just my house settling, but the more I listened, the louder it got, and I could hear the sound of footsteps.

"Hello?" I asked. "Who's there?"

"I'm home, Johhhhnn." The voice said, barely above a whisper, from the other side of my door.

"Oh, yeah. That's me." Terry said.

I jumped out of bed, and ran to my door, and turned the handle slowly, peeking my head out of the door, and looking around.

Nothing.

When I opened the door fully, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.

"TERRY!" I screamed.

Terry was standing right next to me, grinning at me.

"What the fuck, Terry? You scared the hell out of me." I said, pounding on his chest.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Terry said.

"Well, it's okay. But don't do that again." I said.

"Oh, no. I won't. Sorry about that." Terry said.

"It's okay. But I think you should go back home." I said.

"Oh, okay. Yeah, sorry about that, Johhhhnn." Terry said, as he turned around and started walking back to his house.

The next day, Terry looked different again.

He was walking around fine, and when he approached me, he looked different. His eyes didn't twitch, his mouth didn't fall down, and he looked a lot cleaner than usual.

"You know, Terry, I'm glad we're friends, but I have one question for you." I said.

"Oh? What's that?" Terry asked.

"Why do you only look normal at night, and never during the day?" I asked.

"Oh. Well, I'm only allowed to at night." Terry said.

"Why's that?" I asked.

"Well, it's very complicated, Johhhhnn. But, the reason I look like I do is because of something called a curse. I think that's what it is, anyway. Sometime, a long time ago, someone cast a curse on me.

"Sometime after that, this person came to me, and told me that I have this curse on me, and I asked what the effects were, and they told me.

"They told me that, whenever I'm out during the day, I'll be like this."

He pointed to his twitching eyes, and his hanging mouth, and all of the extra fat on his body.

"But, whenever it's nighttime, I'll be normal." Terry said.

"Oh. Okay." I said.

"But the worst part of the curse is...wh
