It’s 2:45am and I’m shaking with anger even though I won because of this dude

I had a guy and his girlfriend come in right before closing and had one of the most bizarre experiences of my life.

I have a sign on the window saying we close at 3am but we take our last customers at 2:30am. I’ve been working 80 hour weeks since our Christmas rush and I finally have a short shift tonight (2:45am is my last call) so I’m pretty excited to have a night off (I work late shifts).

So it’s 2:45am and I’m closing out and sweeping the floor when a guy pulls up at the pump and starts his gas. I walk up to him and tell him in a very nice tone, “Sorry buddy I’m closing right now but I can take care of you but I need to get you as soon as possible.” He responds with, “I’m not your buddy.” Then I politely say, “Ok, what’s your pump number?”

He tells me his pump number and then I go inside and start his pump for him. I ring him up and when he comes in I’m pissed because he brings his girlfriend in and starts a drink order. I work solo at night so I can only make one drink at a time and it’s 2:45am. He orders a venti caramel frappuccino with heavy cream so it takes longer to make. I make his drink and give it to him and he doesn’t even say thank you or anything and just walks out.

I start my closing tasks and I’m doing everything I can to close as quickly as possible when the dude comes back in. He says, “I can’t drink this it’s not made right, remake it or I’m calling the district manager.” I lose it internally and I’m so pissed but I don’t show it. I say, “I apologize for the inconvenience sir.” Then I grab his drink and throw it in the sink and make another one right on the spot and give it to him with a smile on my face and say, “I hope this one is made to your liking sir.”

He walks out and I finish closing as quickly as I can. I do everything so fast I think I might have messed up my receipts so I double check them. Thank god I did because I made a mistake and couldn’t leave without fixing it. I fixed everything and locked up and then I finally got to leave at 3:25am.

As I’m walking to my car I see the dude and his girlfriend sitting in their car at the pump and I’m like, “why tf are they still here?” Then the guy gets out and walks towards me. I’m thinking, “here we go this dude is going to fight me.” He walks up to me and he says, “I’ll have you fired you fucking idiot. You made my drink wrong on purpose and then gave me a weird smile when you gave me my drink all snarky like.” Then I say, “I’m sorry you feel that way, but I’ll have you know I started working here 5 years ago when I was 15 and I’ve worked my way up to assistant manager the past year and a half. I’ve never been written up or in trouble once. My district manager loves me and the Regional loves me and they would never let me go.” Then the dude says, “what’s the Regional’s name, I’ll have you fired tomorrow you fucking bitch.”

I say, “Sorry I don’t give out the Regional’s name to customers, but i will give you the district manager and she can take care of you.” I write her name and number down for him and then he says, “this is my girlfriend’s number, text her and she’ll pass it along to me.” Then I say, “sorry I don’t text random numbers.” Then he says, “I’ll have you fired tomorrow and not only that but I’ll make sure your district manager loses her job too.” Then I get in my car and drive away.

When I get home I call my district manager and leave a voicemail about what had happen. I get to sleep at 4:45am because I was so pissed and I couldn’t sleep. I wake up at 10am and first thing I check my phone and I see I have a text from my district manager. It was a screenshot of a voicemail from the dude. He goes on a racist rant leaving a voicemail on her voicemail and says some pretty racist shit. He finished the voicemail saying, “hello?” Like he was expecting someone to answer him.

She thought it was so funny she played it for the Regional and they both were in tears crying because they can’t believe this dude. Oh and it gets better, the Regional looked up the plate number and the guy that was yelling at me had a warrant for his arrest and is on parole. I’m so hopeful he ends up in jail soon.

Fuck guys like that. People always make me feel better and I appreciate that. Thank you for reading my rant.

Edit: one more thing, please don’t be mean to other baristas because of one barista.
