Democracies with short cycles between elections have historically survived longer than those that have long periods between elections. They are also far more stable.<br><br>The reason is that when people can vote a government they don't like out quickly, they don't get that annoyed. When people have to wait years to get rid of a current government, they get fed up and try to get rid of it by any means necessary.<br><br>The only way democracy can function is if most people are willing to accept a government they don't like for a short period of time. The only way most people will accept a government they don't like is if it is only for a short period of time.
