why do people steal things they can afford to buy

i get that some people steal because they're poor, but i've joined this subreddit and seen many posts of people who have good jobs, are in school, etc. but still stealing. isn't the point to get things you need at no cost? if you can afford to buy the thing then why would you risk getting in trouble for it? also the act of shoplifting is so nerve wrecking and stressful to me, i'd much rather just buy something. plus i find it fun to save up for something and feel like i really earned it. the thrill of shoplifting is just not worth it. what do you guys think?
