My new job is in my family’s house. That’s a problem because one of my coworkers wants to date me

I recently started working remotely for my family’s business. The job was offered to me by my brother, who has been without a job the longest.

The job was perfect for me. My social anxiety has ramped up since March. I’ve gone to therapy, but this year is just not the time. I get to work from home, help out my brother, and skip therapy. That makes me a really happy girl.

My first day was enjoyable. My coworkers were cool, the work was not that hard at all. I felt like I learned a lot about my brother and other men in my family through my coworkers. They say the way a man treats his coworkers is a good way to gauge how he will treat you. I guess it’s true because I learned a lot about my family.

There was one downside though–Kyle, one of my coworker’s, was attracted to me. I guess I’m not shocked. I’m 28 and have always been single. I don’t know how much of it is my chronic illness and how much of it is my anxiety.

Anyway, Kyle. He sent me a friend request on facebook. I don’t see anything wrong with it, so I accepted. In the morning, he sent me some ms word docs of what to do, tips on how to get the work done, what everyone was doing, and all sorts of stuff. I was only a little annoyed that he was being so pushy. I didn’t see anything wrong with it.

I knew he was interested when he gave me a compliment that he shouldn’t have given me. I don’t mind compliments; I’m actually really grateful for them since I don’t get many. But there are some compliments you can only give to people you care about. There are some compliments that require consent. Calling a woman pretty or saying she has beautiful eyes is fine. Telling her that her thighs look good in yoga pants is not okay.

I was really surprised by how much he told me about himself. He had a gf, but he wanted to switch to online dating because he was so busy with Covid and work. I didn’t think anything of it at the time.

This was my first mistake.

I didn’t think it would be a big deal to give him my phone number. In my line of work, you have to be able to contact your coworkers and manager. My manager had my phone number. This is the same as giving my manager my phone number.

This was my second mistake.

I work in a field with a lot of turnover. This is my second job in remote, and I was warned about the high turnover and difficulty in keeping my job. I didn’t want to rock the boat.

Kyle sent me several texts asking me if I wanted to date him and how pretty I was. I texted him back and said I didn’t want to date him.
