What’s better, optimism or pessimism?

I’ve been going back and forth for a bit and I think that while optimism might be better for society, for us personally can we live better as pessimists? I feel like there are a lot of real arguments for this and a lot of real arguments against it too. I personally am leaning towards pessimism being better for the person but I can see ways that it could be worse for the person too.
