*The US could introduce new laws to regulate the tech industry in response to concerns over AI*<br><br>The Biden administration is working on a wide-ranging programme to Governing Artificial Intelligence and Technology (*Gait*) which could see major tech companies in the US regulated under new laws.<br><br>The proposal not only sets out rules for AI but also more broadly how tech companies handle issues like privacy and cyber security.<br><br>The new rules are likely to include laws around data civilian privacy, cyber security, intellectual property and algorithms. <br><br>The document which was leaked to the New York Times and Washington Post outlines a new code of conduct for tech companies which could also include openness, accountability and mitigating gender, racial, and ethnic bias. <br><br>The leaked document which was seen by the New York Times seems to be a key moment in the US’s efforts to regulate AI.<br><br> “It’s hugely impactful,” said one executive familiar with the draft. “This is going to have a major impact on the development of AI systems going forward.” <br><br>The Gait proposal is expected to be officially announced by the White House on Thursday where it will also publish the full draft of the leaked document.<br><br>It is not yet clear when or if the new rules will be passed.
