Post title pretty much says it all. <br><br>Why no penguins on a penguin colony simulation game? In the game, you are in charge of the penguins’ favorite restaurant. The game is open ended, so you do what you want, but your main goal is to not be seen as doing a bad job by your penguin customers.<br><br>Why this game exists: Loved playing sim zoo, but the zoo was really small. Planet zoo was cool, but not realistic, and Planet zoo 2 is too realistic and the zoo is still too small. Wanted to play a zoo sim on a big map, but it doesn’t exist. Figured that a penguin colony sim would be a lot like a zoo sim, but all you have to do is build a restaurant for the penguins. Bonus that the penguins are basically built in museum exhibits. They’re already in the game, and it’s a restaurant, you don’t need to build the penguins’ enclosures. <br><br>You have a big square map to build your restaurant on, similar to Minecraft or planet zoo. The map is not always perfectly flat. Your restaurant is built into a hill. Or a museum. Or whatever. <br><br>There is a manager that you see walking around the map. He is a penguin.<br><br>Your restaurant is open to the public, but most of your customers are your fellow penguins. <br><br>In this game, you don’t need to build attractions, because all the penguin restaurants in the area want to be the best. They want to be the most popular. They all compete to have the best food, the best music, the best merchandise, the best museum exhibits, the best outdoor attractions. The best everything. <br><br>The restaurant is a colony. Every part of the colony has its own rangers, but the restaurant can only see how cool the penguins think the restaurant is. So the restaurant is like a colony within a colony. You have your own rangers, but all the other rangers at the zoo are also your rangers. They're just rangers that you can’t see. They all work for the manager. <br><br>You start with a small restaurant and small outdoor area for outdoor staging. Outdoor staging: no matter what kind of restaurant you run, there are always outdoor activities or events that you want to do. Outdoor staging is where you keep those things. You don’t need to build it. It’s already there. <br><br>You start with a small menu, a bunch of tables and chairs, a museum exhibit, a gift shop, and a stage. The stage is for your music. Music is one of the things that you can build inside the restaurant. Music, museum exhibits, and gift shop items. The museum exhibits and gift shop items are basically items that you can buy from other rangers at the zoo. <br><br>There are five types of food for you to build and sell. Fast food, coffee, fancy restaurant, bar, and snacks. Coffee and snacks are built in the restaurant’s general area. Coffee and snacks are not attractions. They’re just the food you sell at your tables. Fast food, fancy restaurant, and bar are all attractions. You have a general area in your restaurant where you can build anything. The general area is not a restaurant. It’s just a restaurant. But you can build fast food, fancy restaurant, and bar in the general area as well as outside the restaurant, either in your outdoor area or in someone else’s outdoor area. You can build on a friend’s outdoor area without their permission, but they can remove it without your permission. They have to pay you for it, but you will lose money on whatever you built because you can’t remove it yourself. But if you want to build something hysterical on someone’s map, you can do it. <br><br>Each restaurant, museum, gift shop, and stage has a manager. Each manager has a certain style, and that determines the quality of the restaurant, museum, gift shop, or music. Sometimes the quality is more than one attribute. The quality of your food, or coffee, or snacks, is based on the quality of the manager. But the quality of your museum is based on the manager’s style, number of museum items, and number of museum rangers. <br><br>When you build a restaurant or museum or music stage, you can choose the style of the manager. If you want to use a manager with a different style, you have to remove the attraction and replace it. Managers are like rangers, but they can only be assigned to one attraction. If you want to use a manager with a different style, you don’t need to remove it. You can just swap it with a different manager. But if you want to use it for a different attraction, you have to remove it. You can’t have two managers at the same attraction. <br><br>Restaurants have inside tables and outside tables. You can choose whether to make the outside tables fenced in or not. Fenced in tables are way more popular, but they cost way more than a fenced in table for your outdoor area. <br><br>Each restaurant has a capacity. This is the number of inside tables. You can have as many outside tables as you want, but only a certain number of penguins will eat at them. The fewer inside tables you have, the fewer penguins will eat at your restaurant. <br><br>The restaurant is a colony. So you need to follow the manager’s rules for the colony. The manager is kind of like a government. <br><br>The game is open ended. So you can do whatever you want, and you will not lose the game. But you don’t want to do a bad job as manager of the restaurant. <br><br>You can build a small outdoor area for the manager. The manager walks around the map. He chooses places to stop. He chooses how long to stay at each spot. This is the manager’s office. You can move the map to a museum exhibit and have a picnic with the manager in the museum. The manager will decide if he wants to stay there for a while. He will decide if he wants to do it again. You have to follow the manager’s rules, and the penguins’ rules. The manager has a happiness meter. The penguins have a satisfaction meter. <br><br>The manager’s rules are based on the manager’s style. In the game, there are no right or wrong styles. It’s like having a friend with very different tastes. His happiness is based on what he likes. He doesn’t like what you like. <br><br>If the manager’s happiness goes above or below a certain number, he will change his style. If you want to keep a certain style of manager, you have to keep his happiness above a certain number. <br><br>The manager’s happiness is based on what you like. Based on what you build. Based on what the penguins like. The penguins like whatever is popular with the other penguins at the zoo. The manager likes whatever he likes. You like whatever you like. You don’t like what he likes. He doesn’t like what you like. <br><br>Therefore, the game is not to manage a penguin colony. Or a restaurant. The game is not to make a certain attraction. Or to make a certain choice. The game is to make your penguin friends happy, and to make your penguin manager happy. But they don’t like the same things. You don’t like the same things as either of them. You have to figure out what they want. <br><br>So how do you know what they want? You look at all the things you built, and you look at the manager’s happiness meter and the penguins’ satisfaction meter. From there, you can decide if you did a good job or not. If the penguins and the manager are happy, you did a good job. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you did a good job at making the game fun for you. <br><br>But if you did a good job and the penguins and the manager are happy, you get a big reward. You get to see the penguins and the manager have fun. If the penguins love your restaurant, they’ll bring their friends. If the manager loves your restaurant or a certain attraction, he’ll have a party for it. You’ll see him walking around. You’ll see him in his office. You’ll see him having a picnic. And you’ll know that he’s happy. <br><br>So that’s the game. A colony sim where you don’t see the colony, but the colony is always visible. A restaurant sim where the food is important to your penguin customers, but not to your penguin manager. A game where you can do anything you want, but it’s no fun unless you do a good job.
