There is no straightforward answer to that question, philosophy is not something that can be defined by any rigid or strict definitions. One might say that philosophy is the act of thinking, but philosophy is definitely more complex than that. It's more than just personal opinion, although philosophy is deeply personal. So what is it? It's not science, it's not religion, it's definitely not common sense. So what is it?

Personally, I think philosophy is the act of a person watching the world, and wondering what it really means. That's a very general definition, but I think that it's appropriate. Philosophy is the desire for answers to questions that have been asked for thousands of years, and will probably be asked forever.
