Why Do Most Fantasy Worlds Have Medieval Societies?

When it comes to fantasy world-building, a medieval setting seems the norm. Why is that?<br><br>English folklore and fairy tales are built around medieval settings. Medieval settings are more relatable. Medieval settings give more freedom to the worldbuilders.<br><br>Or Is it because Renaissance or Industrial societies are too similar to our own modern society?<br><br>Please let me know your opinions.
