I’m surprised that there hasn’t been much talk about this but the past couple of years has brought me the best quality anime I’ve ever seen and I’m a 10 year long veteran of anime.

For reference, I’m 23. Watching anime since I was 13. A lot of this talk came up when I was discussing anime with some 30-40 year olds in Japan. They made me realize that the present is the new golden era of anime. Excluding the classic greats of the past, I’d say that I’ve watched the most quality anime in the past 2 years than in any other 2 year period with the exception of 2014–2015.

I’m not talking just about popular stuff on MAL. I’m talking about anime that actually showed immense quality and potential to become future classics.

I’ve also felt that the past couple of years has been the best year for light novel adaptations. The adaption quality has been ridiculously good as well as the source material. I’ve never been a fan of light novels but I’m slowly becoming a fan. It’s also been clear that the quality of light novels have also improved like the quality of anime.

I’ve also discovered that quality anime is made by the best studios and best directors and not just the original source material.

I’ve realized that Japanese people do in fact watch anime and are just as critical as us. I’ve actually gained a lot of respect for Japanese people’s opinions on anime. I’ve found that they are actually very critical towards anime and have very negative opinions about the “weebs”. It’s also lead me to the realization that you should trust the opinions of the Japanese first before MAL users.

So, let’s discuss the best quality anime of the past couple of years.
