A kid I use to mentor who was always overly conscious of everything would randomly bring up the topic of "how do we know we're not in a simulation?"

So I was about 14 when I met him and he was about 11. I met him through my church volunteer group and that was our only connection. So we only talked on Sundays and it was usually about what he did during the week. But he was always the kid who was very observant and very critical of the world around him. One day he randomly asked me out of no where "how do we know we're not in a simulation?". I was caught off guard because I was actually a very deep thinker myself at the time but I didn't expect an 11 year old to pose this question. I just laughed it off and said "well, what makes you think that?" and he said "I I think things are too perfect and I think we're living in a game." I didn't know what to say to him at the time. I just told him that he sounds crazy but it's a interesting question. That topic came up a few times after that, like about once or twice a month and it would start a very deep and interesting conversation until they called us to leave the class and go into church. He was a very interesting kid. Really special.

Fast forward about 5 years and I'm done with church. I moved away. I don't live in that town anymore and I really didn't think about that kid for a very long time until I saw the movie "Ready Player One" and they talked about this very thing in the movie. I think about the kid and I wonder if he still thinks like that? Has he went into science? Does he think like Elon Musk and believe we're living in a simulation? I don't know but it's very interesting.
