CMV: The suicide bombing in Jerusalem was a terrorist attack.

This view is not actually particularly controversial on reddit, but I am interested in knowing what people on the left have to say about it, or anyone else with a differing opinion. I've seen a few posts with people on the left calling suicide bombing terrorism, and then tons of comments defending the suicide bomber calling the bombing a heroic act of resistance.<br><br><br><br>Here are some of the defenses for the suicide bomber I've seen:<br><br><br># He wasn't a terrorist because he was resisting Israeli aggression<br><br><br># He was in fact a hero because he was getting sent home in a body bag and there are no survivors<br><br><br># Suicide bombing is a legitimate form of resistance and it works because the oppressor pays a cost<br><br><br># His actions are justified because he was forced to live in a state that has no regard for human rights, and he was resisting the oppressor by using violence<br><br>Here is my counterargument:<br><br><br># By the same standard, IDF soldiers are also heroes because they also die in resisting Palestinian terrorism. This doesn't actually justify anything<br><br><br># Claims that suicide bombing is effective are greatly exaggerated. Suicide bombing has actually been ineffective in achieving any long-term goals, and arguably has strengthened Palestinian resistance's enemies by galvanizing their resolve<br><br><br># Suicide bombing is not a legitimate form of resistance because it is a terrorist attack. Targets usually aren't even military targets, they are usually markets, restaurants, etc. where women and children are killed indiscriminately. Israel does not justify suicide bombings either. Oppression does not justify murder. There is absolutely no justification for this and anyone who justifies this clearly has no regard for human life.<br><br><br># The suicide bomber may have had to live in a state with no regard for human rights, but the suicide bomber's actions didn't cause Israel to harm any less Palestinians, it only made things worse.
