I am not American. I think you guys are lucky to have the second amendment.

So I am from the uk. It is virtually impossible to own and keep an automatic or semi automatic "weapon". I would like to own a gun and keep it in my house. In my safe. But it is impossible. Even if I manage to legally obtain one, I cannot legally keep it in my house. I must keep it at a gun range. Which makes it completely pointless.

In the uk we have banned every kind of gun more or less. Only high powered airguns are permitted without licenses. And high powered pistols and semi automatic and automatic guns are banned outright.

I am not saying we should have unfettered access to guns, but no one wants a repeat of what happened in Dunblane.

Despite this, I do think having the ability to legally own and keep certain kinds of weapons and the freedom to do so is something you should be jealous of and do your best to never lose. It may be your only protection when the government turns on you.
