I used to be so excited for the future

I still am in some ways, but it’s mostly apprehension now.

Just hearing about all these sons of bitches at work revealing their true selves as they get closer to the end of their rope was a real eye opener.
And we really need to stop assuming all women who have traditional views are traditional women.

I spoke with a fellow co-worker I thought was nice, was actually really cool,
but she told me her and her boyfriend was trying so hard to make kids,
And she thought she didn’t have to work out anymore lol.
When I told her that I didn’t want kids, she was shocked.
But my ex did almost everything to raise my son.
Including formula,
And she was grateful.

She told me she’s excited to have a kid so she can stay home and take care of it.
And she was really really happy about it.

She said she has a degree but isn’t really a fan of the 9 to 5.
And her boyfriend has a high paying job anyway, so she was just so excited.

And now that people are talking really openly at work, people have been speaking about how they’ll be happy to claim their benefits and go on maternity leave.
I was under the impression,
That traditional women wanted to work,
But they were actually thinking of marriage, kids, and claim those benefits.

Traditionalism isn’t as great as it was cracked up to be,
I think I got the wrong notion of traditionalism,
I saw the videos of happy housewives and thought all traditional women wanted to raise kids, clean the home, and work.
Most of the videos are just clickbait,
And now that the women at my work have clued me in,
I’m really concerned.

Just hearing the women around me talk,
I can tell they’re not happy with their lives and are just waiting for someone to marry them.
Some of them are even 30 plus and still single,
But they’re so excited for the future.

This is all well and good,
But I’m just really concerned about the state of the country,
I think the government is a total mess,
And with what’s happening at my work,
I’m not sure how long we’ll have a functioning economy.

I did some research and the male suicide rate
Is just insane,
And I really think it was the economy.

Things really got bad when Obama was in office,
But Bush Senior and Bush Junior also messed up the economy and there were a lot of male suicides.

The male suicide rate has consistently gone up since the depression,
And it’s just horrible.

I don’t understand why the situation for men was so tragic,
But I can’t help but feel it’s because of the state of the economy.

Something’s gotta change,
Men shouldn’t die because of the government.
