Why did I get a majority of low grades on rate my professor

I am a recently added professor at a university (new to the department within the last 2 years). I heard about rate my professor 5 years ago and was told it is a good tool to find classes in your area. I never used it even though I went through a lot of schooling. <br><br>My first semester at the new university was very tough it was my first time teaching 3 classes and I had to develop all the curriculum. Yet I had 80% upvoted on my courses. I was happy. <br><br>This semester, I was wondering what my rate my professors was. I typed in my name for grins and giggles and one was in the 4s. the other was in the 2s. I figured that was okay 80% of my classes are great. 20% are not so great that is okay. <br><br>However when I looked at the reviews of my classes with low votes. It was disheartening. Many of the comments were attacking me and not my teaching abilities. For example they said "I bet he has not had a date in a long time or has even left the house in a long time." Or "I have never seen him without a shirt on but judging by his body shape, he probably has man boobs." I have very low body fat. But this just bothered me. Also they attacked my age and career which makes sense, I just started at the university and have a pretty low rank. <br><br>I felt very attacked and hurt that people who know nothing about me can have such hate for me. I have never tried to attack anyone and try to be as nice as possible. I am a professor after all. Also I have never had so many low rated comments on anything in my life. It was strange for me. <br><br>So professors out there. How do you handle this. I am not letting it get to me too much but it still hurts.
