What was the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom like?

The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was a chinese civil war that occurred in Southern China from 1850-1864. It was led by a chinese Christian convert named Hong Xiuqan. He claimed that he was the younger brother of Jesus Christ and obtained a lot of power in the region. The conflict/ war lasted for 14 years and claimed 20,000,000 lives, which is staggering even by todays standards. In the end, the Qing Empire was able to retake the kingdom, and Hong Xiuquan died before the end of the war.
