YouTube (and the Internet as a whole) was much better when people were recording with old, crappy, built-in webcams instead of hyper-realistic, 4K-resolution monstrosities.

Let me explain: Back in the day, you could differentiate the good content creators from the bad, the professionals from the amateurs, and generally the ones who were making good content from the ones who weren't.

Nowadays, with the advent of 4K-resolution, hyper-realistic, super-HD, etc. etc. webcams, anybody with a half-decent setup can record themselves at professional levels. And that's when the shitholes start crawling out of the woodwork.

People who wouldn't be able to get a job anywhere else, people with no talent or charisma whatsoever can now record *themselves* in void environments, and present you with their unfiltered, cringy, retarted monologues, and everybody and their grandmother can record themself with a level of quality that one could only dream of back in the day.

Back in the day, it was a luxury to have a working webcam, to have one that could record you and whatever you were doing at 720p. To have a webcam that could focus on what it was recording, to have a webcam that didn't shoot 90% of the frame outside of the subject, to have one that wasn't a potato that shot at 480p. These were luxuries you could only dream of, and with these luxuries comes the commitment the creator has to actually create something good, something of quality. Every minute of a video from back in the day was a sacred gift that you must cherish, something that showed the effort and care that the creator had put into it.

Nowdays everybody and their dog has a webcam that shoots 4K, with perfect focus, with perfect lighting, with perfect environments, etc. And they feel empowered to put whatever they want on the Internet, be it be functional analysis of the art in the 19th-century, be it a scientific breakdown of the water quality in the adriatic sea, or be it simply a 10-hour stream of them eating and doing nothing.

Let's all take a moment to cherish the beauty of webcams from back in the day, when true quality stood out like a beacon of hope in a sea of shitholes, when it was a privilege to watch a vídeo, not some mundane activity that every single human has access to.
