TikTok is owned by a company called ByteDance, which is essentially state owned by the Chinese Government. TikTok has been proven to harvest your vpn proof location data, use voice and facial recognition, download your phone contacts, use your gps data, and harvest data from your clipboard.

There is no reason to believe that they don’t give this data to the Chinese government. While other companies like Facebook also harvest your data, they don’t give it to a generally very authoritarian government that has concentration camps for people they don’t like.

Despite all this information being out, TikTok is still as popular as ever and growing. If humans as a collective species were truly wired to survive in the long run, we would be collectively staying far away from this app. We are actually the opposite. We seem to have no care of the long term effects of our actions and are instead collectively moving closer and closer to a dystopian surveillance state. The United States government is even literally trying to ban the app and people are outraged that their freedom is being infringed upon.

I don’t think humans have a long term survival instinct, and the popularity of TikTok proves it.
