The world is an RPG. Even after I killed the "Final Boss", I'm still going to roam the land.

The world was a video game. We all knew that now. It was a game designed for us, a stupid race of monsters to entertain the players.

We lived on solo PVE mode, allowed to wander the world freely with complete disregard to the rules of physics. We could level up and get new abilities. All the typical RPG nonsense.

But it was clear the game was created by players. The rules were designed to keep us under control. We were the NPCs.

I was just a teenager when the first players invaded our world. They came down from the sky, spawned in the biggest cities and started hitting random civilians. The people tried to defend themselves, but they were no match for the gods from the heavens.

The first player I saw up close was a rogue. He was level 25. He was about to kill me with his dagger. I was only level 8 at the time.

I swung my fists at him repeatedly. The "attack" message just read ** Miss **. I was no match for him.

He laughed. He readied the killing blow.

Then he took a direct arrow to the heart. He died instantly.

I wasn't the one who saved me. Who could have possibly saved me? I looked around and saw a girl. She was level 13. She wore a cool black leather armor set and had a bow slung over her shoulder.

"Are you ok?" She asked. "My name is Lilith, by the way."

"I'm Finley. Yeah, I'm fine thanks to you."

"Cool. Let's get out of here before more show up."

Lilith was a cool girl. Over the next few weeks we roamed the countryside together. It turned out players could only spawn in the major cities. We were fairly safe out in the woods.

We saw a few more players as they expanded their search. Most of us had fled the cities by now, so they started roaming the countryside too. We watched from the hills as they passed below.

I was level 15 now. Lilith was level 20. Even so, we couldn't take on the players. They were too strong. The strongest one I saw was a level 40 Warrior. We watched as he slaughtered a whole village.

The players would kill anyone. We had to get rid of them.

Lilith and I decided to start training. We took all of our skill points and focused them on developing abilities that would help us kill. In a month I was level 30. In two months I was level 40. In three I was level 50.

My strength was massive now. I could crush steel with my bare hands. I could wield massive axes and swords without effort. I was powerful enough to take on the players.

"Alright Lilith, time to go to war." I said. "Are you ready?"

"Yep, my archery is insane now. I can hit anything anywhere with precise marksmanship." She said.

We went to the nearest city. We found a level 15 player. Lilith shot him in the heart. He died instantly.

Then we went to the nearest city. We found another. He was level 30. I killed him with a swing of my giant axe.

The players started sending groups now. We killed every group. We started just roaming the whole country. We killed every last one. We killed hundreds of players.

But as strong as we were, we were no match for the strongest players.

We met a level 60 one day. We tried to fight him. We lost. He killed Lilith immediately with a lightning bolt. I was killed by a giant scimitar.

Death was...inconvenient. I was sent back to my spawn point with all of my items, but I had to walk a day to get back.

I found Lilith there, but she didn't remember anything of our battles or even our friendship.

I tried to convince her we were friends, but she didn't believe me.

"You're crazy. You're just saying that because you saw my level." She said. "Like every other guy."

I gave up. It was no use. The day I spent walking was enough to increase my level. I didn't even need to fight monsters.

I decided then that I would never rely on anyone again. Lilith and I were the only two I knew strong enough to kill players. But even we had failed.

I had to be stronger. I was level 55 now. But that wasn't enough.

Maybe it was enough. I had been roaming the country, killing all the players I found. But the players recently had started changing their strategy. They stopped spawning in the cities. Now they spawned in secret locations.

I would have to go to the cities to gather information.

I walked into one of the cities. First I saw a player. He was level 50. He charged at me.

I swung my axe. ** Critical Hit **

The player was cut in two. His corpse fell to the ground. The players were so weak.

Next I saw a blacksmith. He was level 10. I talked with him.

"Oh God, you're the legendary player killer. Can you kill the players? They're trying to conquer our city."

"Why would they want to?"

"I guess it's part of their game. They need to conquer territory. They're trying to conquer the whole world now."

"I'll stop them."

I left the city and went to the next one. I repeated this process for months. The players changed their strategy. They tried to create giant armies with which to overpower me.

I killed the armies.

I roamed the entire country. I spent years travelling from city to city. I killed anyone who showed up. I was level 80 now.

I heard a rumor that there was a secret location somewhere where the players could level up more. The location was based on the player's class and job. The location for Warriors was in the middle of the desert in the south.

I walked through the desert for days. Then I found it. A giant cave.

I readied my axe and went inside. I saw a level 80 player.

"You're the guy who's been killing my friends!" He shouted. "I'm going to kill you!"

He charged me.

I swung my axe.

Miss.

He swung his scimitar.

Miss.

I swung my axe.

Miss.

He swung his scimitar.

Miss.

This continued. We were too evenly matched.

Finally I swung my axe.

Hit.

I had won. I headed deeper into the cave.

I found another player. He was level 90.

"Looks like I get to kill you!" He shouted. "You will not defeat our great emperor!"

Our great what? I swung my axe.

Miss.

He swung his scimitar.

Miss.

We continued to fight.

I swung my axe.

Hit.

I continued deeper into the cave. I killed another level 90 player. He told me the same thing. I killed another, who said "The great emperor will rule this world!"

Finally I reached the end of the cave. I saw him. A level 100 Warrior. He was the strongest player.

"I am emperor Wulfric! And I will rule this world! Nothing can stop me now!"

"Oh, I think I can." I readied my axe.

He charged me.

I swung my axe.

Hit.

He died.

I was tired. I walked back through the desert. When I reached the nearest city I noticed that all the players had disappeared.

I went inside. I talked to the blacksmith. "Oh, you're the player killer. Thank God you're here. Have you heard?"

"Heard what?"

"The Players have ended their invasion."

"Oh, yeah. I killed their emperor."

"Is that how it works?"

"I think so." I replied.

"So we're safe? The players will never come back?"

"Yes, it's over."

I left the city and roamed the countryside. That's all I had done for the last few years. Maybe I was just bored. Even so, I roamed the countryside.

After a few weeks I will have leveled up. I wonder what I'll do next.
