Let's get a reality check: the vast majority of people aren't very smart, and almost no one will be able to handle the future.

So, I work in industry with machines, I've worked in construction industry, I've worked in cars, I've worked with people who are farmers, mechanics, laborers, etc, etc. I don't know where people get that "average people" are smart, or that they will somehow adapt to be able to handle the future.

Most people can't even clearly state what they believe politically, or their thoughts on religion, let alone handle the future of robots taking their jobs, or AI, or people living in the metaverse, etc, etc.

I've met people with degrees who are functionally illiterate and innumerate. I've seen people in STEM fields who can't even do STEM. I've worked with people in STEM who won't even be able to survive without the structure of a job. I've met PhDs who are barely able to live their own lives. And as Bill Burr said, it's not just them - it's also you. You're not special. You're not a unique snowflake in that you're a lot smarter than average. You're almost certainly average. And you won't be able to handle the changes which are coming, any more than anyone else.

The fact that most people are stupid and can't handle the future isn't an opinion, it's a fact. The average IQ is in the 80s-90s. Most people can't even do basic algebra. The majority of people cannot do basic computer programming. They will be utterly unable to adapt to a world of AI, robots, and bunkers, or whatever other advanced tech is coming down the pipeline in the next 50 years.

There's a whole class of people who will be fine with the coming changes, but it doesn't matter what they think. They're not the issue. The issue is the average schmuck, who will simply go along with what's happening to him, until he doesn't, at which point he will become a violent, angry, reactionary who will lash out at society.
