The government doesn't listen to the people anymore

Trump lost the popular vote but still won the election. People wanted lockdowns and mask mandates but our government said "fuck you, we're doing the opposite". 75% of Americans want stricter gun laws but our government still does nothing. Does the government care about what the people think anymore?
