The state of Arizona on Wednesday sued President Joe Biden’s administration seeking to reinstate a controversial Trump-era rule that reimposed asylum restrictions for migrants at the US-Mexico border. In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Phoenix, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said the administration had violated federal law by ending the rule, which was imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In July, the Biden administration ended the rule that allowed authorities to turn away migrants at the border without a chance to ask for asylum. The rule was used more than 3 million times to expel migrants. The US Supreme Court in June allowed the rule to be terminated.
