The pizza guy I almost let in

I’m a single mom with 2 kids I recently moved to a new house and started to order pizza from a certain pizza place. I like them because they’re cheap, they open until 2 am which is great when you want some comfort food and the pizza is good. They also have this deal where you can tip the delivery guy less and he’ll drop the pizza in front of your door without ringing the doorbell. I like this because I have to leave the door open in order to open the screen door and sometimes the delivery guy won’t let me close the main door before he leaves. It creeps me out. Most of the time he doesn’t catch me when I’m getting undressed after work. <br><br>It was a Friday night and I had the neighbors over to watch a movie with my kids. We were having a good time until my kids started having a meltdown. I apologized and took them back to my house. I realized I didn’t have much food in the fridge and decided to order some pizza. <br><br>I ordered the pizza online and rang the doorbell before getting into my pajamas. When I opened the door there was a young man that looked a bit too happy to be taking my money. He was a bit shy and I thought he was probably new. <br><br>I continued watching the movie with the neighbors until they left around 10:30. Then I went back to my house and went to bed. About 15 minutes after I fell asleep I heard a weird noise coming from my front door. I woke up confused and saw a shadow walking by my front door. I got up and saw that the front door was opened and the screen was closed. I got up ran to the door and locked it up. I’m not sure why I couldn’t see it until then but after locking the door I realized the screen door was wide open. I closed it and felt my heart sinking. My gun was under my bed and I didn’t have the energy to go get it. <br><br>I called 911 and told them a strange guy was in my house but didn’t want to explain why he was there and how I left my front door open. I didn’t want to look like an irresponsible mom but I just wanted to know if there was any weird guy walking around my neighborhood. <br><br>The police officer came to my house a few minutes later. I couldn’t sleep but somehow my kids didn’t wake up. I walked the cop around the house to see if there was any sign of forced entry. That’s when I saw the pizza box on the front door. It was not there when I left to hang out with the neighbors. I showed the cop the pizza box, told him it was weird and he agreed. He told me that the guy probably came back rang the doorbell and walked into my house when he saw the front door open. I felt stupid and didn’t want to tell him how I left the front door open and how I didn’t close the screen door. He kept telling me that if I had closed the front door I wouldn’t have had any problems and that there was no forced entry. <br><br>I felt stupid and ashamed of my irresponsibility as a parent. I told him maybe the guy delivered the pizza right after I fell asleep and walked into my house. He told me that wasn’t possible since I ordered at 10:05 and he got there at 10:45. I asked him why he was taking so long to deliver and he told me he probably stopped at a house to hurt someone or rape someone. I laughed awkwardly. I still laugh when I’m uncomfortable. <br><br>The cop left my house and told me that hopefully he’ll be caught and charged for something. I didn’t hear anything from the police so maybe the pizza delivery guy didn’t do anything else weird. I’m just glad nothing happened to me or my kids. I still get pizza from the same place except I don’t use the tip less and drop in front of the door deal.
