I tried the 2 hour layover and it sucks

I had a 2 hour layover in Madrid and so far, I've barely made it to my gate.

Here's a rundown. Got to the airport, cleared customs in 10 minutes. Got to the gate and it was closed. There was a note with a new gate. Got to the new gate and it was closed. There was a note with a new gate. On my way to the new gate, I got stopped by a very nice woman who took me aside and gave me a free covid test. After I finished, she let me go and now I'm at the gate.

I'm sitting here and the gate is closed. It says boarding in 30 minutes. I have no idea how this will work. Why would they close the gate? If someone was late, they wouldn't be able to get in. Even though this is Barcelona airport, the flight is in Spanish so I don't understand much of what they're saying. They've been talking about the gate for the last 20 minutes, but I have no idea what they're saying.

It's clear they're not ready for tourists. I'm in a huge airport and there are only 2 places to buy water. There are no restaurants open, so if you want food, you need to bring it.

Both airports were very disorganized. When I got to Madrid, I saw the transfer sign and followed it. The sign led me to a huge line. I thought this must be customs. I got to the front of the line and they told me this was just a random covid stop and that I had to go to a different line for customs. When I went through security in Barcelona, I had to take my shoes off. I have never had to do that before. Also, there were a lot of different machines. There was one for my bag, one for my coat, one for my shoes, and a body scan. It took forever.

With all of the issues I've had so far, I don't think I'll be doing a 2 hour layover again.
