I stole hundreds of dollars of food as a kid.

I haven’t told anyone this other than my boyfriend (who’s had his fair share of shoplifting food). <br><br>When I was maybe 8 or 9 years old, I used to go to the grocery store that was by my elementary school and steal candy bars, chips, and other little snacks. I was able to get away with this for quite a while and on one occasion I remember, I took something like $50 worth of food in bulk. It was fun to steal all that food with my friends. <br><br>I was too little to know better, and I stole so much that it probably equaled hundreds of dollars. I didn’t keep the wrappers when I ate whatever I stole so I always had a little trash bag full of stolen wrappers that I threw out when I was done with it (throwing them away at home so no one would find them and figure out I was stealing). <br><br>The reason I stopped was that there was an employee passing “good morning” cards out to kids (I don’t know why I got one but I’m assuming he was being nice) and then he came up to me and said something like “you know, I know you’ve been stealing a lot of food in here, so please cut it out soon because I get the impression that you’re a nice kid.” I stopped stealing from there after that and never got in trouble for it. <br><br>I said hundreds of dollars but in reality it was probably something like $50 or so total that I stole because I stole just a $1 candy bar at a time. But It felt weird when I got called out on it. <br><br>Edit: I was clearly wrong about the $ value lol. And thank you so much for being understanding and not giving me shit.
