"Dear Lord, please send an angel of protection to watch over me at work until I get home safe."

This is a work story from 7 years ago. It was the last "creepy" event to happen to me in the military before I got out. I think it's relevant here.

I was a mechanic in the military and was on shift from 5pm-5am. I signed out a vehicle to go to a range for some training and testing. I had a gun and a radio on me if anything happened. Usually not a big deal but I'm a small girl and it was dark and I was alone on the way to a field that was the opposite direction from the main base. I knew that if anything happened on the route there, no one would be out on that road until morning. I prayed for an angel to watch over me during my drive to and from work.

It was a cold winter night, not much traffic even on the main roads. The training went well and I made it back to the shop to park the vehicle. I was bored so I drove around the block a few times in the vehicle to do a once over with the lights on to make sure I didn't scratch paint anywhere. I didn't see any new scratches or dents so I parked the vehicle in a designated area and locked it up. Thats when I noticed a guy "watching" me from a few parking spots up. I didn't pay any attention to the guy at first, thinking he was just in the van for work purposes or waiting to pick someone up. But as I walked to the van, I saw the guy sit up and look at me with a very pissed off expression on his face. I thought he looked familiar but couldn't tell where I knew him from at first. He watched me as I got in and started driving away, still pissed off and glaring at me.

At this point, I'm still clueless if he is a threat or not. I pulled back into the area I parked to do a few more laps and check the vehicle, and he followed me in his van. I pulled up alongside him, rolled down my window, and said "Hi, hows it going?" He looked pissed and yelled back "Its going fine, I guess it could be a little better. You know what would make it better?" And I'm sitting here trying to play dumb (not really) and replied "No, I don't know what would make it better, thats why I asked you how it was going." He said "If you got in my van." I said "Nope" and rolled up my window and drove away as fast as I could. I pulled back in the shop and ran inside. I told the guys in the shop "If a guy in a green van pulls up and is looking for me, PLEASE tell him I'm not here and I wont be back out tonight. I don't want to see him anymore tonight and if I do I'm calling the cops." They all just kind of looked at me and said "okay." I didn't think much of it, thinking they just didn't care. But they did care.

The next day, I told one of my buddies what happened and told him the description of the guy in the van. My buddy said "You mean Joe? He works in the motorpool too, he's a mechanic in 3rd platoon." I said "Yea thats the guy." He then told me that he had heard rumors of Joe getting arrested for a peeping tom incident in an off base neighborhood but that he didn't think it was true. I said it was probably true. He told me that the guys in the shop heard me talking about the guy in the van and they watched for him all night but he never showed back up. I thought that was really cool of them to watch out for me like that. I also thought it was cool that the prayer for protection worked. I was completely unaware of the potential danger at the time, but my prayer was answered and I was kept safe.

I didn't talk to Joe again, ever. I didn't want to. And he never bothered me after that.
