Is the guy I saw on the subway the one who’s been watching me at work? And what should I do about it?

This is kind of a weird post, but I don’t know where else to ask for help.

I’m 22F and I take the subway to get to my 9-5 office job. Every day, I take the same subway line at about the same time (4 pm) and ride it for 4 stops until I reach my office. Well, this one guy always gets on at the same stop I get off (let’s call it “Finch”). He always wears the same grey sweater, jeans, and a black beanie, so it’s kind of hard to miss him.

For months, I thought nothing of it. He probably worked around that area. But then about 2 months ago, I started noticing him on other subway lines. He’d be on the same line I took to get to work, but at different hours (usually around 6-7 pm). At first, I thought nothing of it, but then I started noticing him at other places, like outside my office building. I even saw him walking towards my office one day (around 5:30 pm). It was a bit unsettling, but I didn’t want to get worked up over nothing.

But then a week ago, something happened. I was walking home from the subway one night, and I passed by a small park near my apartment. I was almost at the exit when I heard footsteps behind me. I looked over my shoulder and saw the guy from the subway walking towards me. It was almost dark out, and the park was pretty deserted. I got really scared and quickened my pace, but he was catching up. I panicked and ducked into a small alley between two buildings. I texted my friend, but I was too scared to look back.

The next day, I went back to the same park to see if he would show up again. I didn’t see him at first, but then he appeared around 6 pm and walked around the park for a while. I was there until around 7 pm, and he didn’t approach me. I was still really scared, but at least I confirmed that it was him.

I work from home now, and my mom is always on the phone with me to make sure I’m safe. I’ve been staying up late and keeping all the blinds open so I can see if anything weird happens outside. I don’t know if it’s paranoid of me, but I feel better knowing that I’m safe.

I’m sorry this is a long post, but I don’t know who else to ask. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I’m afraid to confront him directly, but I don’t know what to do next.
