I'm a bit confused by the word "scholar" and the meaning behind it. I know in English we use "scholar" to mean someone of great learning, education, or intellect, but my question is: where did this term come from? It doesn't sound like it came from Greek or Latin, but I'm not aware of any Germanic terms that relate to it either. How did we come to use this term to mean what it means today?
