Weird too long story ahead, please bear with me.

I'm 24 F, music student. I work as a waitress at a high end restaurant, my co-workers are mostly my age (23-25) but we have a few older servers as well, most of them are married, a few have kids.

The restaurant is in a big city, we get a lot of business from people staying in the four hotels connected to the building, and we are also very close to the central square, so a lot of people walk by and come in for a bite to eat. This is a very upscale area, we get a lot of rich guys eating alone with their phone facing the door, and couples and groups in fancy clothes and jewelry.

We get some younger people eating in with their parents, who's visiting the city, or couples celebrating things, and we sometimes get some young couples coming in on dates. We also get a few people eating alone, usually it's just a single person at the bar having a salad or a small entree, it's not a huge bar scene, but we do have a small selection of beers and wines, and we do serve fancy cocktails, but it's not really the scene.

We have a very strict policy, and we are all trained to be extremely observant and protective of women alone, and couples where a woman is on a date with a man, if we notice anything at all that seems off, a manager will usually go do a welfare check and we've had situations where we called the police.

This is relevant because this all happened a few weeks ago, a couple came in for an early dinner, a few hours after we opened. The guy was older, he was wearing a gold wedding band and he looked like he was in his 50s. The woman was much younger, I'd guess she was in her 20s.

She was very, very pretty, with long, curly dark hair and light green eyes. She was petite with long legs and big breasts. She was wearing a red, very tight dress with a low neckline, black heels, and her hair was down. She had full makeup and long, painted nails.

She looked uncomfortable, and she didn't look happy to be there. She didn't look around the room at all, she kept her eyes locked to her phone, and whenever her companion spoke, she looked up and smiled widely and laughed. She looked like she was high on something, or on some drug, and she looked embarrassed.

I do not know what her story is, but it did not look good. I did not think she was there consensually, and she did not look okay. I do not know if she was being trafficked, or if she was with her sugar daddy, or what. But I do know it did not look good.

She didn't order any alcohol, she asked for tap water and they both got appetizers and entrees. I reported all this to my manager, who came to take their order and he looked at her for a while, and when he came back, we all agreed to keep an eye on them.

Their table was all the way in the back, so I was often passing by to go to the bathroom. I did not want to be obvious, but I did want to make sure she was okay. Every time, I would glance and smile, and sometimes I would stop at the table to refil their water or to ask if they needed something. Every time, she would look up, with this frozen, forced smile, and her eyes would quickly cross mine, then she would look back to her phone.

I felt bad, because I do not think she wanted me to look at her like that, I think she knew I thought something was off, and she knew I was concerned. But I didn't know what else to do, and I did not want to leave her alone.

She ate half of her appetizer, and a few bites of her entree, she was done with her meal when I went back to clear the plate. I smiled and told her the food was good? And she just sort of nodded and muttered something that sounded like "yes" and looked back down.

She didn't look at me again for the rest of the meal, and I did not want to scare her, so I just left her alone and kept an eye on them. I went to the bathroom three or four times, I refilled their water a few times, and I stopped to ask if they were okay, and if they needed anything else. She never looked up again, but the guy was getting mad at me.

He would look at me, and scowl, or he would ask me questions that weren't about the food, to try and distract me. Stuff like "do you live around here" "where are you from" "are you working your way through college" he wasn't being sleazy, he was just cold, and he was trying to get my attention.

I would answer him briefly, but I would keep looking at her, and he would look at her too. He would talk to her, sometimes, and he would reach across the table and touch her hand, or he would brush her hair out of her face. She would not react, she would just keep eating and looking at her phone.

After a while, he asked for the check, and I brought it right away. He paid in cash, and he gave me a 5% tip. As soon as I took the check, he grabbed her arm and they left really quickly. I'm assuming he heard me talking to other servers, and he figured out I was talking about him, or he was just sick of me being around.

As soon as they left, I told my manager he gave me a shitty tip, and he said not to worry about it and he gave me a $20. Then I told him I was worried about the girl, he said me too, so we talked for a while.

He said the guy looked familiar, he was acting like he owned the place, he seemed very comfortable, and he had this look in his eyes, like he was used to having his way. My manager said guys like that do not like it when you don't cooperate, and he hoped the girl was okay because he did not like the vibe around that table.

I never saw her again, I don't know what happened. This happened at the beginning of the year, and we are in the middle of spring right now. I don't think she is okay, and I think it's possible she is not alive anymore. I do not know how I can help, and I do not know what else I could have done. I would do anything to go back and help her, but I don't know how.

I've had a few other situations at work, some guy tried to follow a woman out of the restaurant, we had someone find a note in their bag, and we've had a few ladies ask us to call the police for them.

But this was the only time I ever really saw someone else who I was sure was in danger, and I felt so powerless. I do not know if she's okay, I do not know if she is alive. I do not know if she works nearby, I don't even know her name.

I do not know if she will ever come back, or if I will ever see her again. I do not know if I helped her by showing her I cared, or if I made it worse, and I do not know what I would do if I ever saw her again. I do not know what I would do if I saw him again.

But what I do know is this: If you are a young woman eating alone, or eating with a man, or with a group, you are safe with me. I will always look out for you, I will always be there to protect you, and I will help you if I can, and I will make sure you stay safe.

That's all, thanks for reading, stay safe.
