American here: My entire family was searched 5 times at Dublin airport security and I think we’re racial profiled

I’m not sure what part of Reddit this belongs in, but people say this subreddit has the most well travelled people so here goes. I’m American and recently travelled to Ireland with my entire family, 3 kids, a baby, and my wife. We’re all tan skinned, my wife is Chilean and I’m half Native American. We’re also a religious family and we’re all modestly dressed.

When we passed through Dublin airport to get to our connecting flight we were stopped at the security checkpoint. We were frisked and scanned multiple times, my children were not spared. I asked the lady why we were being held up and she said she was just doing her job. I asked a security manager if we were being searched because we were Americans, he said no. I asked if we’re being searched because we’re a family of 6, he said no. I asked him if it’s because of our skin colour, he said no. I asked him if it’s because we’re religious, he said yes. Then he corrected himself and said, ‘Well it’s not that you’re religious, it’s that you guys look religious’. We were frisked and scanned repeatedly until 1 in the morning. I don’t know what constitutes looking religious, my wife was wearing a head covering. Honestly I’m a little confused as to why this happened and I think we were racially profiled. We’re returning home on the 23rd of December and I want to know if this is going to happen again. What does looking religious even mean? Has anyone else had an experience like this?
