So this is a story that I gotta share with y'all and it’s a long one so grab a bag of popcorn. basically I’m a world history major and there’s a course on the conflict that I’m taking, which is taught by a European visiting guest professor. Anyways, this is the world history department vs the Jewish studies department and we all know what the former is notorious for.

So the prof, while European, is actually quite even-handed and only goes mildly into Palestinian suffering which is a rarity at my uni. There’s only two of us in the class who support Israel and the rest are either antisemites from Saudi/UAE who openly support Hamas or your usual stupid American college kids who pretend to be woke but literally know nothing about the world and haven't even been outside the country.

So this one dude, let’s call him Tom, comes from a well-known Palestinian-American family, and he’s obsessed with the professor. Like obsessed to the point where he tries to talk about Palestine every single day after class, and how the Israeli occupation is, quoting, "the most heinous thing humanity has done to humanity since the world war 2." the professor is naturally visibly irritated by this dude but has the grace to engage with him but the dude won’t take no for an answer and keeps badgering.

So basically Tom made a whole ass Google slide presentation over the break (we had a week-long spring break, and the class just comes once a week) and asks the professor to just bare with him for "only five minutes" to give his presentation to the class. the professor says sure, and Tom starts going on one of the most fumbled, half-baked, poorly referenced, delusional presentations I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. I swear to god the guy was talking about Canaanites and how Palestine is the cradle of civilisation and how every Palestinian is an heir to that beautiful legacy and how Palestine has given the world so, so much but the evil occupying Israelis who just showed up out of nowhere in 1948 are sucking their resources, which is why the country is still poor.

It was delusional. Like, the guy used a bunch of random youtube videos and Wikipedia sources. the world history department at my university is notoriously strict on sources, which is why I found it odd that the prof allowed the guy to even go on with this nonsense. So he finishes, and the prof tries to politely contradict some of the things he said, but Tom keeps interrupting and starts badgering him, which is when the prof loses it and basically calls him out for wasting everyone’s time and not being able to properly deliver a presentation, saying the information he presented was not only biased but flawed in many ways and he shouldn’t have used random youtube vids and reddit posts as sources, and how he makes it a point not to let biased students hijack his class and go on with their political agendas.

Tom started shouting, calling the prof an Israeli sympathiser and how he's being repressed for speaking the truth, and the prof told him to show respect to his classmates and if he gets cocky one more time, he'll report him to the department and will give him an F for the course. Tom got mad and walked out and the rest of us were relieved that this stupid episode was over.

Anyway, he went to file a complaint with the department over being "suppressed" (Entitlement is truly the defining feature of the palestinian delusional behaviour ) and he posted about his "victory" on his Instagram (he posted the prof’s apology email) and how he made the prof change his stance and how it’s a win for the "palestinian cause", when the reality is that the prof agreed to change the syllabus only because he’s only visiting for one year and doesn’t wanna deal with this bullshit behaviour all semester and Tom thought that was his "win" when it wasn't, but whatever.

Anyways, this just shows how flawed the American education system is when students think they can hijack the faculty just because they think they own the place? the audacity is funny to watch but it’s honestly not something to be laughed at. the fact that faculty gives in to this kind of behaviour instead of calling it out for what it is is honestly despicable and no one, literally no one, holds them accountable for their lunacy

Edit: I’m really concerned about the fact that the department demanded to change the syllabus to accommodate this delusional student.
