It has become the universal go-to takeaway from self-help seminars, and self-help books, and motivational speakers. This myth that we only use 10% of our brain, and that if only we could use the other 90% of our brain, we could lose 50 pounds of fat, and be a millionaire, and find world peace. We've all heard it, and you've seen it in the movies. The idea that our brains aren't firing on all cylinders, because if we were, we'd all be Albert Einstein, or Stephen Hawking. So we all nod our heads, and we agree that we need to use more of our brains, and that this explains why we haven't yet achieved our dreams, or met our expectations.

But the problem is, it's not true. Every single neurologist will tell you that there is no such thing as 90% of our brains that isn't firing. That this is a complete and utter lie, and that if 90% of our brain tissue was not being used, we would be an invalid. But you don't hear that last part. You only hear the first part, because the first part is what drives people to go out and spend money on self-help seminars and self-help books.

Edit : Thanks so much for the gold you guys, this is my first gold ever. I'm glad I could help start a conversation on this. I've got a lot of comments to get back to, so if I don't get back to you right away, it's only because I have so many to go through.

Edit #2 : Wow, I really need to stop losing CMV's at this rate, haha. Thanks for the silver guys, I really appreciate it.
